This week’s playlist has put me in a really good mood. Hope it’ll do the same for you! I want to wish a happy belated Cinco de Mayo and early happy Mother’s Day to everyone. OH, also wanted to mention that the Amalia Remix Contest winner was announced last night after I recorded this! Also, we are extending the big Karmacoda feat. Beth Hirsch & Anji Bee CD-single giveaway so email info<at>karmacoda.com ASAP to enter! There are some amazing free downloads this week by some of my all-time favorite artists, so be sure to grab all of those while they’re available. Enjoy!

This week’s one hour episode is a bit more moody than usual with a lot of dream pop and world beat music thrown into the mix. Ambient and ethereal are the order of the day, with plenty of gorgeous female vocals – and some male vocals, as well. I present some great new special permissions music as well as some solid new Podsafe tracks, including several nice free downloads. For those of you in the wintry part of the world, this mix should suit your long dark nights quite nicely… As for the rest of us, it serves as a reminder that cold days are just around the corner.

I had a lotta fun listening back to all the great podsafe songs that were released last year. So many talented artists made their music available via the Podsafe Music Network and IODA Promonet, which is a beautiful thing… Of course, I’m lucky enough to have many more songs and albums sent to me for what we call “special permissions,” but my tradition is to celebrate the music that was made legal for any and all podcasters to use in their shows. At a time when bloggers are proclaiming podcasting as a dead medium, I think it is especially important for us to appreciate the increasing growth of high quality podsafe music and to support the artists who support the art form of podcasting. Being both an indie artist and podcaster, I can see and experience that wonderful symbiotic relationship from a unique perspecitve, and let me say that I do not think podcasting is dead by a longshot. But hey — its 2009, let’s get this party started!
Since I’ve played 2 videos by Dive Index featuring vocalist, Natalie Walker, I thought it was high time I highlighted one of Natalie’s own videos! This video for “Quicksand” from her 2006 debut album, Urban Angel, was directed by Jon Clements for the acclaimed video production company, Done & Dusted. You can download this video free from Natalie Walker’s Vimeo page. The song itself is available via iTunes or Amazon.

The Chillcast Video Edition is back with another dreamy video from Dive Index for “The World Is Kind,” featuring the lovely Natalie Walker. This video was created by Anita Maria Leib and appears courtesy of Neutral Music. This video is included on the Collisions: Mid/Air Remixes CD from earlier this year, while the song itself hails from their 2007 debum album, Mid/Air. You can also buy “The World Is Kind” video on iTunes.

Its a return to form this week with a relaxing mix of chillout tunes with both female AND male vocals. Yes, I do like male vocals, for those that have asked! I’ve also got the winners of the Natalie Walker CD contest this week, care of Dorado Records and IODA Promonet. Hey, I hope you all have updated your iTunes and are checking out the Genius feature. We want to make sure indie music is representing out there! I’m already getting some pretty cool playlists generated and I’m excited to see how they’ll evolve over time. BTW, I lied when I said I’d have 1 free download this week; I’ve got several for you to enjoy!
Zack “The Mothman” Daggy is on a much needed vacation from podcasting this month and asked me to step in as a guest host for his weekly music show, The Mothpod. I thought I’d return the love he’s shown me and my band Lovespirals on his various podcasts with a 45 min set of my favorite Chillcast love songs. And by “love songs,” I don’t mean sappy ballads, no! This is pure, dead sexayyyy…. Though not an official Chillcast, it sure sounds a whole heck of a lot like it!
Will just sent me a copy of his brand new Dive Index CD, Collisions: the Mid/Air Remixes, which is due out officially on Sept 26th. On this week’s Chillcast #127, I played a remix of “Water In Our Hands” featuring the lovely Natalie Walker on vocals. Then I discovered that this CD also contains 2 videos, one of which is for the original version of “Water in our Hands.” The video and animation are by Divya Srinivasan, an amazing Austin artist who worked on one of my all time favorite movies, Waking Life by Richard Linklater, so I had to share this video with you! Hope ya dig it.
I’m home from the New Media Expo, having hung out with fellow music podcasters from shows including Dave’s Lounge, Cybster Space, Friday Night Dance Party, Most People Are DJs and so many more… This show celebrates my return (like you ever missed me…) with the winners of the Bitter:Sweet and Dive Index contests and a great new Natalie Walker contest! Plus tons of great brand new releases.
4 people will be chosen at random to receive a copy of Natalie Walker‘s new album, “With You,” and 1 extra lucky winner will have their copy autographed by Natalie!
