This week’s episode is a spotlight on the CC Asia Band release, CABACA. This 21 song album is the collaborative effort of dozens of artists spanning the Asia-Pacific region in the spirit of share and share alike. Friend of the show, MoShang, was one of the pivotal figures in the completion of this collection of songs, and you can hear his unmistakable stamp on several of the productions. I am very proud to bring you a small taste of the release and strongly encourage you to go download the full set — and if you’re a producer yourself, why not grab the remix files to contribute your own mix to this ongoing project? This is a Creative Commons release so podcasters, radio DJs, Second Life club owners, film makers etc – please feel free to use these songs, as well.

Plastic Operator return to the Chillcast Video Edition with one of the catchiest songs EVER, “Folder” (no, not as in “scruncher or folder“), from their 2007 album, Different Places and the Folder EP. This fun video was directed by AICP award winner, Pete, of Bitstate. Be sure to check out this weekend’s Chillcast audio show to hear their latest single, “Peppermint,” from the Peppermint EP. And watch next week for the world premier of Karmacoda’s brand new video for “Make Like Mine” ONLY on The Chillcast Video – w00t! The Chillcast Video Edition returns with this fun video for the MoShang song, “Waiting for the Bus,” from his debut 2004 album, Made in Taiwan. This comes from a 45 minute video set that he uses in live performances. I’m really excited about a collaborative Creative Commons project that MoShang invited me to join called the CC Asia Band (or CABACA) which is due out soon. Until then, you can check out MoShang’s own CC album project, Asian Variations, in my first-ever vidcast contest! Of course, you can all go download this chilled set of remixes for free, but I have one of the limited edition CDs to give to a random lucky winner. Anji Bee Muxtape Collaboration Mix

I couldn’t resist making a Muxtape of Anji Bee tunes past and present! The idea is so simple its brilliant; quick ‘n’ easy mixtapes you can listen to via computer or iPhone. As a music and podcast creator, its very frustrating to find that folks on iPhones can’t access my content via webpages — well, now they can! To kick it off, I’ve assembled an array of collaborations recorded from 2003 to the present day. And by present day, I mean like last week! Included in the mix is a brand new unreleased track from the upcoming CABACA album assembled by MoShang and PigSkinHead, which I am very excited about. I also threw in my “hidden track” on the new Chandeen album, and for fun, my song from PUSSY: The Musical. There are quite a few obscure tracks here, so check it out when you get a chance. Maybe you’d like to make your own Muxtape?

Fan Discovers Lovespirals via MoShang via Second Life

Its always interesting to find out how fans discover my music and podcast, and sometimes the connections are surprising. A recent post on Second Arts blog details Morris Vig’s musical journey, courtesy of Second Life. Apparently a chance MoShang performance in SL lead to the discovery of Lovespirals (via MoShang’s remix of “Motherless Child,” no doubt), as well as The Chillcast with Anji Bee, which of course has always been a strong supporter of MoShang. Even more fun is that MoShang was Vig’s gateway into the chillout music scene. May I be the first to say, “Welcome!”

Hard to believe 2007 is over! Tons of great podsafe music was released last year, making it tough to come up with just 20 of my favorite songs! As I mention on the podcast, I limited my selection to PODSAFE tracks from 2007 that were previously played on The Chillcast. There were many great special-permissions tracks I played as well, but I limited myself to songs that every podcaster can legally play on their show.
