Today’s musical guest is Luxembourg artist, Sun Glitters. Last month he uploaded a gorgeous video for his glitchy chillstep track, “The Wind Caresses Her Hair,” on his Vimeo page. This single was released last year on his Bandcamp page as a “pay what you want” release, which means that you can download it free if you wish. Original music video by Hampus Karlsson of the Cargo Collective.
Usually I post dance mixes for the Fourth of July but with the holiday hitting midweek and me doing the audio show every other week now, I kinda missed the boat. However, I did select these tunes for you on Independence Day so it’s got a sweet party flavor. Once again, today’s show flows from soft and dreamy to sensually upbeat, but with a funkier retro vibe this time around. I’m continuing to explore lovestep and chillwave, plus all of its mutations, as well as delving into various forms of house, with a mix of vocal fronted and vocal sample work. There’s some great free downloads included, so be sure to pick those up from the links in the show notes below. Enjoy!

This week I’m pleased to present the new video for “Only Bitterness Remains” by my friends, Lovers and Poets. The Silverlake duo of singer/songwriter, Shannon Hurley, and her bassist husband, Ben Eisen, released their debut self-titled album late last year and have been promoting it with a series of shows in the Los Angeles area ever since. If you live in the area, be sure to check out one of their upcoming January shows at Taix Lounge (1/11/2012) or Osaka Hollywood (1/5/2012). The band are offering a limited-time free download of their chill cover of the Nick Lowe song, “Cruel To Be Kind,” on Lovers and Poets Soundcloud page. Be sure to grab it while you can!
This week’s musical guest is the Danish musical collective, Boom Clap Bachelors. “Løb Stop Stå” features Quadron vocalist, Coco O., who stars in the video. Coco is also featured on the new solo album by fellow band member, Vindahl, who I featured earlier this month on Chillcast Video. This track hails from the Mellem Dine Laeber EP, released by Plug Research Music in April of this year. The video was directed by Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen, who made it available as a free download on Vimeo. The song is also a free download on SoundCloud. I’ll be featuring it on The Chillcast with Anji Bee episode #291. Check out more links below the vid!
This week the tie that binds my song selections together is the piano. It seems that a number of new songs have come my way with haunting piano melodies, and while a single piano song can stick out amidst my primarily electronica sets, when I started placing them all together, it was magic. I hope you enjoy this beautiful, melancholic set featuring piano in a variety of different musical settings and moods. And don’t forget to check out this week’s Chillcast Video, linked to below. Enjoy!

I’ve packed a lot of music into this 60 minute episode! After last week’s extended dance mix, I thought I’d bring things down a notch and focus in on lyrics this show. Towards the end I present a set of spoken word pieces, followed by 2 chopped up vocal remixes, but the rest are those dreamy vocal tunes you’ve come to expect from Chillcast. Though primarily chillout and downtempo, the pace picks up for the final third, and the whole show includes an interesting mix of styles.

As I was putting together this week’s playlist, I noticed that I had a plethora of male vocal tunes in the mix. As its historically been rather rare to hear male vocals in electronica, I thought I’d capitalize on this opportunity to features all male vocals this episode. And oh, what nice vocals they are! From playfully soulful to moody and dark, this mix runs the gamut. Overall, though, I’d say there’s a preponderance of dreamy tunes in this set. There’s quite a few free downloads this week, so enjoy!

Finally enjoying a mellow day as I put together this episode for ya’ll. I really love how the mix flows from ambient poptronica to upbeat dance tunes and hope you’ll dig it, too. I’ve got some brand spanking new music here that you are sure to love, including several free downloads. Oh yeah…
Ey yi yi, what a week I had! I think I need this Chillcast more than you do… Luckily, lots of great music arrived in my inbox just in time to save the day. This week is an eclectic and exotic mix of brand new tunes from a number of different countries in nearly as many genre styles. Plus half of them are free downloads. Enjoy my friends!
