We are very siked to have the opportunity to collect and release an old favorite. Every logo, ad, illustration, photo, and page of this zine is a blueprint. Positive Influence was done by Anji Lum from Oct 1988 until sometime during the beginning of 1990 in San Pedro, CA – 100% pure SoCal teenage hardcore exuberance. Anthology coming soon! šæ
A 1988 illustration by Anji Bee for New Age Records is making a comeback! This pen and ink drawing of a straight edge guy jumping while pumping his fist was used in the early days of this So Cal hardcore punk label. Nearly 3 decades later, the label is dropping tees, hats, and buttons with this iconic drawing that in all honesty, was drawn to look like Anji’s Positive Influence zine partner, Buster Cates. A new ācoffee tableā book collecting stories and ephemera from the infamous LA underground club, Jabberjaw, has been released by Rizzoli Publishing. Anji Beeās zine SUBSTITUTION had many ties to the club, having been sold at their concessions stand to club patrons, and featuring a number of photos, reviews, included there-in. Anji and Sam even organized an event there to launch the second issue of the zine. As such, Anji contributed a number of photographs and flyers ā as well as some text ā to this archival book organized by club co-owner, Michelle Carr and assembled by Bryan Ray Turcotte.
