Returning to the show today are my good friends, Karmacoda. This San Francisco band has been quite prolific the past year, releasing a series of live performance videos, reinterpreting songs from their 4th album Eternal. But now they’re releasing a classic music video for the original mix of their sultry second single, “Epic.” The band enlisted Brazilian videographer, Luis Otavio Feldens, to create another of his unique productions. This is the 3rd video he’s produced for Karmacoda; you can watch the first two on previous episode of Chillcast Video. Listen to my 2011 Chillcast Karmacoda Feature to hear B and Heather discuss their latest album and videos.
Its no secret that Chilean trance producer, Aerotek, is a longtime fan of Bitstream Dream. He dreamed of one day working with Anji on some tunes… and 2012 is the year that dream came true! The newly formed duo have several tracks underway, with one on the brink of release via renowned UK trance label, Perceptive Recordings. Stefano, however, could not resist sharing it with the world ahead of schedule. He has featured “My Lonely Sunset” in an excellent guest mix for the Sunset Melodies vidcast on YouTube. Check out the tune at the 3:50 mark of the video. Also in this mix is a sneak peek at a second new Aerotek song, called “Girls In Pink Shirts.” This lovely 7-song set is enhanced by gorgeous videography of beautiful girls in dreamy locations, quite perfectly reflecting Stefano’s aesthetics. 🙂 Shout out to Pure Bliss Vocals for posting this set on their site.
This week my musical guest is the poetess and hip hop artist, Katalyst 5, of Montreal, Canada. I just discovered Lady Katalyst via the new Northern Faction 5 various artist compilation out now on Balanced Records. Today we are checking out the video for the sultry 4:20 RMX of 2 Luvrs by recent Juno Award nominees, Rise Ashen. This video was produced and directed by Labnoise with artistic direction by Lady Katalyst and Ugo Gitau, and choreograhy by Samantha Hinds.
For the second time this month, my musical guest is British singer/songwriter, Jamie Woon. I am so addicted to his debut album, Mirrorwriting, that I just can’t get enough! Today I present the mysterious and dreamy video for his original, Burial-produced, mix of “Night Air,” directed by Lorenzo Fonda. The Night Air EP, released in late 2010, also contains 3 other mixes of this lovely tune. The original mix was also featured on my recent Chillcast #306: Sides of Soul.
This week my musical guest is British singer/songwriter, Jamie Woon. I discovered him last year when iTunes featured “Lady Luck” as the Single of the Week and have been really enjoying his debut full-length album, Mirrorwriting, which was just released in the US by Verve Music Group. Jamie will be my guest for both episodes of the vidcast this month. Today we’re checking out The SRK produced video for the original mix of “Lady Luck.” Check out dÉbruit‘s Suave Mix on Chillcast #303: Chillwave & Lovestep.
Returning to Chillcast Video for the first time in nearly 3 years is Parisian band, Shine. After 2 years of silence, the band is set to release a new album next month. Hooray! Today we’re checking out the gorgeous video for the title track, “Judas and Mary,” featuring the band’s new lead vocalist, Julie Gomel. This video was directed by Cédric Mouilleron aand produced by L.I.P. Collectif; starring the beautiful Alix Bénézech. Shine’s album, Judas and Mary, is due out March 8th 2012 on all digital platforms, so you’ll be hearing more from them on my weekly audio show soon!
Returning to the show today is San Francisco artist, Artemis. She just released an animated video for the dreamy Mijo remix of “Easy.” This lovely video was created by Sara Abtahi, an Iranian artist currently living in Germany. You can download the song “Easy (Mijomix)” or the full Auralei EP from Bandcamp, with their unique “pay what you want” option. Artemis is in the process of completing a new album and participating in the Song-A-Day challenge, posting her work online for your listening pleasure.
Returning to Chillcast Video this week is, Favorite Flava, from Gothenburg, Sweden. Today’s video for the trio’s song, “Stacy,” features Paul Mac Innes (AKA Psaul) on lead vox. He will be my special guest on the next episode of The Chillcast audio show, as we peruse his soulful catalog of music past and present. You know, Favorite Flava made my Chillcast Top 20 of 2011 podcast, so be sure to check that out, as well!
Today’s musical guest is one of the founders of Sea to Sun Recordings, singer/songwriter, Sylvia Tosun. Though her music has been featured on The Chillcast several times, this is her first appearance on Chillcast Video. I’m proud to present her stylish video for the Top 5 Billboard Hot Dance Club hit, “World Keeps Turning,” directed by Mike Ruiz and Bec Stupak with styling by The Blonds.
This week I’m pleased to present the new video for “Only Bitterness Remains” by my friends, Lovers and Poets. The Silverlake duo of singer/songwriter, Shannon Hurley, and her bassist husband, Ben Eisen, released their debut self-titled album late last year and have been promoting it with a series of shows in the Los Angeles area ever since. If you live in the area, be sure to check out one of their upcoming January shows at Taix Lounge (1/11/2012) or Osaka Hollywood (1/5/2012). The band are offering a limited-time free download of their chill cover of the Nick Lowe song, “Cruel To Be Kind,” on Lovers and Poets Soundcloud page. Be sure to grab it while you can!
