It’s been far too long since I chilled wit u!!!! It’s been a busy summer and I’ve lazily been letting Apple Music select my new music, which has been fun. I looked up a few of my fave finds on Soundcloud to see what was available on the remix scene and was pleased to find alt versions of tracks with pretty unforgettable vocals. Even though there are a number of big vocal focused tracks in this mix, there’s also some really solid instrumentals, or near instrumentals. As always, the vibez flow from sensual and slow to highly emotive edm remix bangers, with some sexy twists and turns throughout. I hope it was worth the wait for you.
First Friday vibes in effect! I’ve got a classic Chillcast mix for ya to get your weekend started off right. I dug up some bootleg remixes of a few of my fave big artists as well as a slew of great underground talents over on SoundCloud. It’s getting tougher finding bootlegs these days, but I’ve got my ways. LOL. There’s some great vocals in this mix as well as plenty of chill beats and melodies. Enjoy!
First Friday just came outta nowhere today! Guess Memorial Day shortened our week right up, didn’t it? Well, if you’re anything like me, you need to catch your breath for a minute. Today’s set is both chill and uplifting, if you can imagine that. Nowhere near as spacey as usual, but not exactly a dance set, either, I think I’ve struck that perfect “kick back” vibe to get your weekend started off right. Cruise over to my SoundCloud page for the playlist with free downloads from this set: https://soundcloud.com/chillcast/sets…
Another First Friday is upon us! And I could really use some chill time. This month I checked in with Co-Sign (www.co-sign.com/) who are promoting some great albums right now. Consequently there’s a lot more album cuts this mix than bootleg remixes and underground artists from Soundcloud. I also grabbed a few cuts from Bandcamp from old friends of the show. As always, the vibes start out slow and sexy and build steam as the hour goes. Lots of great vocals this set, a nice mix of genres, and a catchy cover/remix of Drake to cap it all off. 😛
Get lost in the vibes of today’s chill af First Friday mix. So many good vocal tunes in this set with hooks for days. And beats? Yeah, I got ’em. This is truly a classic Chillcast Mix with everything I really love. There’s a couple of paid Bandcamp tracks in here but the bulk of this playlist is available free on Soundcloud. Check my playlist over there for the links:
After noticing all the retro music in Netflix production of 13 Reasons Why, I was inspired to create a mixtape of 13 songs from my own High School experience. I’ve never really looked back fondly on this painful time of life, and it’s often been hard to hear the music which embodied this confusing era for me. But there’s no denying how beautiful and gut wrenching these songs are, even several decades later. It’s been awhile since my last non-Chillcast mixtape. Let me know if you enjoyed this odd trip down memory lane, and I’ll consider doing it again with a different musical theme.
Trying to get back on that First Friday show schedule for you guys… I’ve got some great new tunes from SoundCloud and related download sites that I think will get you in the weekend chillzone. A few of these are leftovers from my Valentine’s Day search, but a couple just dropped this week. You can grab individual downloads care of my SoundCloud playlist at: https://soundcloud.com/chillcast/sets/
Can’t believe this is the 10th Annual ‘Cupid’s Hunt’! I’m a sucker for love songs, so making Valentine’s Day mixes is something I can really get behind. This year’s one hour mix expresses an array of romantic and sensual feelings, from purely lustful (NSFW) to outright devotion, sung by both men and women. As always, I start it out slow and low, building up the energy as we go. There’s a number of bootleg remixes amongst some amazing original songs from an array of lesser known producers. You’re guaranteed to discover some artists you’ve never heard of! Most of this music was discovered via SoundCloud and is available to download free. A few came from the Artist Union or Tone Den sites.

Michigan based blog, Inside The Rift, interviewed Anji for their ‘Metaphysics & Spirituality’ section this month. The feature goes into depth about about vegan lifestyle and her popular YouTube channel Happy Healthy Vegan, as well as her long career in music. Prox also asks what books, music and YouTube channels Anji has been into recently. It’s a fairly lengthy piece, replete with related photos, video, and links. Check it out at InsideTheRift.com.
Prox: What initially sparked your interest in downtempo, jazz, and chill out? How did you decide that this was the type of music that you wanted to create?
Anji: Ryan and I started working on music together in 1999, when he was immersed in the drum n bass scene, but coming out of a long history of making goth-tinged dream pop. I was a college radio DJ at the time, spinning a number of different genres. I’ve always had a voracious appetite for music and love discovering new styles and artists. He and I started exploring all the new types of electronica music being made in the late 90’s, early 2000’s: trip hop, downtempo, deep house, chillout lounge etc etc.
I got really involved in the online music scene, doing streaming radio and then podcasts, and I met a lot of musicians through my endeavors. Here and there I would get involved in musical collaborations online, though a lot of these songs were never properly released, or in some cases, even fully completed to my satisfaction.
Fast forward to 2010… Ryan and I had just released our 4th album as Lovespirals and Ryan suggested we switch gears to a project based on some of these incomplete song ideas of mine. He thought it would be fun to do something lighter than the heavy guitar-based material we had written for ‘Future Past,’ and also wanted to support me as a solo artist, giving me more leeway as a composer, as well as a lyricist. So he selected some of the jazzier and laid backs songs I’d worked on over the prior decade and set about to create or re-create the music for them.
I’m more or less at his mercy with music, as I don’t play any instruments and only know the basics of programming. Were it up to me, I’d be working in more modern genres, like I play on my show, The Chillcast, but I’m not a producer, so I just focus on how I can best contribute lyrically and vocally to any projects I’m invited to work on. My voice lends itself quite well to jazzy and soulful music, but I’m pretty comfortable singing on dream pop, alt country, and retro rock music, too. Ryan and I like to mix genres, so you never know what we’re gonna do next, honestly.
My first mix for 2017 features 10 brand new tracks culled from SoundCloud. Even the 2016 tracks are pretty recent. As always I start it out slow and sexy, building up the vibes as we go along. Lots of future beats and bass with plenty of hip hop and r&b vibes and a splash of pop EDM. There’s a couple remixes, notably Tarro’s mix of THEY. a fun remix of Ed Sheeran’s new hit, and a killer mashup by Autograf in honor of Pres Obama. Lots of vocal based tunes today — and it’s def NSFW. Have a great weekend, peeps and happy new year to ya!
