I had totally forgotten about Independence Day when I sat down to make the playlist this week, so I scrapped it and started fresh to create a full hour of good, good vibes – to quote the amazing new Sara Tavares song I open up this set with. This was one of the tougher episodes to make, quite frankly. One never knows what to say in the wake of unexpected deaths, and here I was trying to figure out the best way to talk about Andy Hughes when the news of Michael Jackson came in. And all of this on top of the ongoing struggle in Iran, not to mention the death of Charlie’s favorite Angel. Plus rumors have been swirling about Sasha Vujacic being traded and various other celebrities dying — all very distracting and non-chill… That being said, however, I think I managed a pretty tight one hour mix for you that’s about half contemplative downtempo and half upbeat dance music. I hope it brings you some peace of your own.
This full hour episode is dedicated to our beloved L.A. Lakers who just won their first NBA Championship in 7 years. Congratulations also to team captain, Kobe Bryant, for additionally winning the Finals MVP award. As I type up shownotes, I’m sitting here drinking a cuppa joe out of my new Sasha Vujacic mug given to me by one of my fellow Vujachicks at a fun viewing party for game 4. OK, I swear, no more Lakers posts or tweets for awhile. I’ll be switching to Wimbledon and Roger Federer any day now. LOL!
