“Heartstrings” Lyrics

“Heartstrings” Anji Bee

I feel him tug my heartstrings
His fingers pluck the melodies
Part of the cosmic fugue now
Melding into everything

Turn away our daily cares and
Let the music soothe our souls
And the notes that he’s playing
Combine with mine to make us whole

Music is magic
I feel it moving me
Music has the power
To set our souls free
Free

In the quiet of the night
All alone in our room
While the world is fast asleep now
He and I compose this tune

Music is magic
I feel it moving me
Music has the power
To set our souls free
Free

I feel him tug my heartstrings
His fingers pluck the melodies
Part of the cosmic fugue now
Melding into everything

Music is magic
I feel it moving me
Music has the power
To set our souls free
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
To set our souls free
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
To set our souls free

NOTE: These lyrics were originally written during Lovespirals’ 2001-2002 ‘Windblown Kiss’ writing sessions, inspired by an instrumental track by Sean Bowley. They were first set to music in May 2004, when I collaborated on a song idea with Chris Caulder, based around an old acoustic guitar riff by Ryan Lum that I found on a backup disc. Before the song was completed, Chris moved to another state and was without a studio for awhile, leaving the project in limbo. In February 2007, Ryan and I produced an abbreviated version of the song using Chris’ musical demo — adding Ryan’s guitar lead and my vocals — to use as the theme music for a short-lived podcast called Lovely Ladies. We are now completing a totally new recording of the song for my debut solo album with different music and updated vocal harmonies.

“Spring Raindrops” Lyrics

“Spring Raindrops” Giovanni Perini The Cinematic Sessions: Shanghai (2010)

Itandeiru
Watashi no
Aware na
Kokoro ga
Itandeiru
Watashi no

My poor heart
Oh how it is aching
Can you hear the sound
Of it breaking
Show pity on the one
You’re forsaking
Look at all the love here
Just for the taking

(repeat all)

– by Anji Bee (BMI)

Note: These vocals were originally recorded in 2008 for the CC Asia Band Creative Commons project. My vocal files were also made available to remixers on the CC Mixter site, where Giovanni downloaded them to create this new version. An abbreviated version of these lyrics are featured in the Plastic Chair song, “Dispersion,“ from 2003. My Plastic Chair partner, Chukimai, translated my English lyrics to Japanese.

“Buddhahood” Lyrics

“Buddhahood” Benoit Cassar Danai, Vol. 2 (CD 1 : Camera Rolling) (2010)

Know ye not that this life is deceit?
Know ye not that enjoyment is illusion?
Know ye not the world is a passing show?
Know ye not that happiness is a dream?
Know ye not that praise and blame is insubstantial?
Know yet not that appearance is the mind itself?
Know yet not that the mind itself is Buddhahood?
Know yet not that the Buddhahood is the body of truth?

When ye reflect, all appearances are compacted out of mind
Contemplate the mind by day and night
From contemplation of the mind comes beatific vision
Abide in that beatitude
Know yet not that the mind itself is Buddhahood
Know yet not that the Buddhahood is the body of truth
Know ye not that the body of truth is truth itself
When ye meditate upon these things assiduously
Though ye do not succeed in rooting out desire and hatred
Know that whatever appears is your own mind-stuff
And that the mind itself is void
If ye dwell in wisdom inseparably
All the observances of the law, oblations, and the like
Are thus perfectly fulfilled

Know ye not that this life is deceit?
Know ye not that enjoyment is illusion?
Know ye not the world is a passing show?
Know ye not that happiness is a dream?
Know ye not that praise and blame is insubstantial?
Know yet not that appearance is the mind itself?
Know yet not that the mind itself is Buddhahood?
Know yet not that the Buddhahood is the body of truth?

Note: These lyrics are an adaptation of one of the Songs of Milarepa, a classic Tibetan Buddhist text. I recorded these vocals originally for the CC Asia Band Creative Commons project, where the song was called “Crossing The Pond.” My vocals were made available on the ccMixter site, where Benoit discovered them and created this version of the song.

“Perfect Boy” Lyrics

“Perfect Boy” Bitstream Dream Connected (2003)  Love Me Leave Me LP (2013)

Angelic in statureAB-LMLM-Cover
Graceful and thin
Raven black hair
Pale silken skin
Serious brow
Classic strong chin
Twinkling eyes
And a childlike grin

The most perfect boy (x4)

See you in cafes
Out on the street
See you in clubs
In the smoky heat
I get so upset
I look at my feet
I know deep inside
One day we’ll meet

The most perfect boy (x4)

I found out your name
And your number, too
But now that I know
What am I gonna do
Give you a call saying
“Hi guess who
And oh, by the way
I think that I love you”

The most perfect boy (x4)

There he is now, he’s coming my way.
Oh god, what am I gonna say?

Angelic in stature
Graceful and thin
Raven black hair
Pale silken skin
Serious brow
Classic strong chin
Twinkling eyes
And a childlike grin

The most perfect boy (x6)

Note: This lyric was originally written in mid-1994, though I don’t recall recording it until the Bitstream Dream song was created in 2000 and released online as a single. A totally different version with a new arrangement of the same vocal files was created by Chukimai in 2001, called the “Plastic Chair Mix.” Bitstream Dream released their version on a short-run CD called “Connected” in 2003. The Chukimai mix was only released in mp3 format. The version that appears on Anji’s ‘Love Me Leave Me’ album is an all-new recording with additional vocal harmonies and new main melodies for some portions.

“Disillusionment of Language” Lyrics

“Disillusionment of Language” AKA “True Beauty,”  “Words (Lack of Them)”

Various ccMixter producers (2009)

Words continually elude me
And I struggle to express
These feelings bottled up inside
They seem to hold no meaning
Feeling like mere empty shells

How can I vent this passion
Building up in heavy silences
Thoughts still seek release
Words only drain them away

Language is forever failing me
There aren’t enough variables
Vocabulary startlingly small
I need more verbs and adjectives
To describe these frantic impulses

How can we speak, communicate
When there is but one word
And that a shallow cliche
Full of bias and pretext and lies

There must be another word
To do justice to the concept
Forming in my mind and soul

How can I tell it to you
Unless we do not speak at all
But show our thoughts instead
Expressed in silences complete

With minds quieted and the hearts open
Eyes projecting everything
Telling all we seek to share

We must allow ourselves the time
And believe in our ability
To know without a concrete proof
And thus destroy such true beauty

— by Anji Bee

Note: This is an old poem from the early to mid 90’s that I recorded recently and made available on the ccMixter site. Various producers have created songs under different titles using these lyrics.

“Whole Wide World” Lyrics

“Whole Wide World” The Grooveblaster Cities, Streets & Bebop Nights (2008)

I found your picture in a drawer
I hadn’t seen it for 10 years or more
It got me wondering
What ever happened to you?

If I searched the whole wide world
Should I search the whole wide world?
What if I searched the whole wide world?
For you, you

You were my first love years ago
It’s been so long now
That I don’t know
Just where you may be today

Every so often I speak your name
And in my mind’s eye
You look just the same
But I really wonder what do you look like today

But if I searched the whole wide world
Should I search the whole wide world?
What if I searched the whole wide world?
For you, you

I tell our story, but it sounds strange
All the facts are rearranged
How do you feel today
And how should I feel today

What should you mean to me
Is it important, this history?
When I know
We’ll never be together again

There’s a place in my heart for you
I hope you’ve kept one too
Remember when our love was new
I’d search the whole wide world for you

If I searched the whole wide world
Should I search the whole wide world?
Well if I searched the whole wide world?
For you, you, you…

— by Anji Bee (BMI)

Note: These lyrics were originally used for a collaboration with David Martin AKA Diode back in 2000. That version was simply called “Wide World” and was released via digital download only.

“Summer Days” Lyrics

“Summer Days” The Grooveblaster Cities, Streets & Bebop Nights (2008)

citesstreetsbebop

Summertime
Flowers blooming
Fruit is ripe
And all is full of life

Aqua skies
Fuchsia foliage
Just look around
The colors are so bright

Just enjoying summer days with
Pleasant sultry summer days with
Just enjoying summer days with you
Ah, with you

Out of doors
Feel the cool breeze
Sit back, relax
Everything alright

Smell of grass
Damp with dewdrops
Ladybugs and butterflies
In flight

La la la la…

Just enjoying summer days with
Pleasant sultry summer days with
Just enjoying summer days with you
Ah, with you

Summertime
Flowers blooming
Fruit is ripe
And all is full of life

Aqua skies
Fuchsia foliage
Just look around
The colors are so bright

La la la la…

Just enjoying summer days
Pleasant lazy summer days
Just enjoying summer days
With you
Ah…

Note: These lyrics are an adaptation of one of the Songs of Milarepa, a classic Tibetan Buddhist text. “Crossing the Pond” is an instrumental by Snoblind which I added vocals to specifically for the CC Asia Band Creative Commons project. Benoit Cassar released his mix, entitled “Buddhahood,” on his 2010 compilation, ‘Danai, Vol. 2.’
