PodShow leaves Sirius

Amidst the flurry of talk about Sirius and XM satellite merging, it has been announced that PodShow is no longer with Sirius. I only just joined Adam Curry’s PodShow lineup this January, so it isn’t as near and dear to my heart as it is to the core group, but it is still a bit disappointing. Honestly, I have no idea if anyone was really tuning in to the radio broadcast or not… As Julien Smith warned me, listeners never seem to email or comment on blogs, but as Marcus Couch pointed out to me, bands and labels seem to be impressed by the dual delivery system of the shows. And when you tell family or friends you’re “on Sirius” they seem to be impressed as well. So I guess I’ve basically lost some bragging points and some extra work. You may not have realized it, but even my show was edited a bit each week to fit the Sirius format and window. So now I can go back to a full 30 minute show if I like! There’s got be a silver lining to every cloud, right?

i say the same: bragging rights out, but you don’t have to worry about that satellite window anymore. and a full 30 minutes always suited the Chillcast just right, and i believe that the same can be said for your other shows.

while saying that you’re “on sirius” can make some eyebrows go up and get the usually interested response of “really?”, i’m not sure if it really means that much, as the ratio of people w/ipods to people with sirius receivers is clearly lopsided. and zack’s got a point: getting podcasts on the go would be sweet. somebody’s gonna figure that out at some point.

podshow leaving sirius is unfortunate, but i believe a better situation will arrive down the line…

It’s a shame but to be honest putting podcasts in a fixed time slot seemed like putting a plane on tracks, all that flexibility wasted. As a note a friend of mine at PRI told me that the last “This American life”‘s podcast down loads exceeded the Arbatron estimated listenership. It was a spike possibly dew to there tv show but it’s a good trend. Any way quality content will always draw an audience.
