Now I know the episode number listed here is #293, but in actuality, this is my 333rd Chillcast posted to the Mevio Network. Kinda intriguing, huh? OK, not half as intriguing as the lineup I’ve got this week, which includes some pretty amazing legal free downloads from really great artists. This is a pretty classic lineup this week, with a lot of variety, from laid back and loungey, to upbeat electropop, both instrumental and vocal, with a little glitch here, a little retro 80’s vibe there, and plenty of chill in-between. Chillcast #291: The Cure

Continuing on from last week’s darker theme, today’s show has a bit of a gothic flavor, filled with melancholy. Half new tunes favoring moody guitar and female vocals, the second half is filled with cover songs or side projects of The Cure, whom I am lucky enough to have tickets to see next week at The Pantages Theater. OK, OK, I know Valentine’s Day is a long way off but why wait until February to celebrate love? The longer, darker nights of Autumn are the perfect time to snuggle up with someone special, listening to love songs by candlelight. And the depth and variety of songs reflecting various aspects of love flooding my inbox this month is undeniable. There’s shades of retro everything thrown into this mix, from 70’s disco to 80’s electropop, to 90’s deep house and then some, all with delicious vocals and tantalizing lyrics. This Labor Day weekend I present an extended 90 minute DJ mix for your listening pleasure. Primarily deep house of various styles, this set is upbeat yet chill, with a mix of vocal and instrumental tunes. There’s some brand new stuff in here, as well as a few tunes I’ve been holding on to for the right occasion. So as not to break the party mood, I kept my voice overs at a minimum, with the shortest of intros and outro and no talking in between tracks. Instead, I had a little fun mixing and cross fading tunes. Enjoy!

This week we explore some of the trippier new releases that I’ve been diggin’ but wasn’t sure how to fit in between chillout lounge and deep house. This is a chill set featuring intriguing vocals — many with interesting use of reverb or delay — and plenty of mood. The second half goes more soulful, with a heavy Swedish influence.
