The first show of 2011 takes a look back at some of my personal favorite tunes from 2010. Unlike my “Top 20 Podsafe Songs Of…” shows of years past, this selection is not confined to only podsafe music. Because I now play more music received directly from promotional companies and bands than ever before, I just couldn’t restrict myself that much. I hope you’ll enjoy this 90 minute mix of chillout, lounge, electropop, downtempo, deep house,  and minimal tech house as much as I do! As you’ll hear in the show, I made a last-minute decision to take next week off from the podcast, so this is the final show of 2010. Though its being released on Christmas, this is not a holiday music show. You can check out last week’s episode for a great mix of wintry holiday tunes. I’ve been told several times this week that I’m “passionate” and while that word might hold different connotations for different people, I would have to say that it could well be the one word that sums me up best. This show is one of my passions as I am very passionate about music and passionate about sharing new music that I feel will inspire passion in your lives. I don’t know about you, but when I hear a really good song, a particularly poignant lyric, a soulfully melodic riff, well, it’s a whole lot like falling in love. Artist of the Week: Vanessa Daou

After an 8 year hiatus, the lovely Vanessa Daou has returned with a delicious new album. Part smooth jazz, part experimental folk – Miss Daou paints an aural portrait of a smoky basement lounge where a sexy poetess performs side by side with a sensual chanteuse. Daou flows effortless between the two worlds of spoken word and song, and we follow along, held in sway by her siren’s call. Listening to ‘Joe Sent Me’ is like coming back to your favorite old haunt to find that time has stood still and preserved the magic of that first time you discovered it there, hidden just below the surface of the busy city streets.
