Chillcast Video #81: Karmacoda Epic Premier

Returning to the show today are my good friends, Karmacoda. This San Francisco band has been quite prolific the past year, releasing a series of live performance videos, reinterpreting songs from their 4th album Eternal. But now they’re releasing a classic music video for the original mix of their sultry second single, “Epic.” The band enlisted Brazilian videographer, Luis Otavio Feldens, to create another of his unique productions. This is the 3rd video he’s produced for Karmacoda; you can watch the first two on previous episode of Chillcast Video. Aerotek & Anji Bee “My Lonely Sunset” Sneak Peek

Its no secret that Chilean trance producer, Aerotek, is a longtime fan of Bitstream Dream. He dreamed of one day working with Anji on some tunes… and 2012 is the year that dream came true! The newly formed duo have several tracks underway, with one on the brink of release via renowned UK trance label, Perceptive Recordings. Stefano, however, could not resist sharing it with the world ahead of schedule. He has featured “My Lonely Sunset” in an excellent guest mix for the Sunset Melodies vidcast on YouTube. Check out the tune at the 3:50 mark of the video. Also in this mix is a sneak peek at a second new Aerotek song, called “Girls In Pink Shirts.” This lovely 7-song set is enhanced by gorgeous videography of beautiful girls in dreamy locations, quite perfectly reflecting Stefano’s aesthetics. 🙂 Shout out to Pure Bliss Vocals for posting this set on their site.

I know, I know, I’m spoiling you guys with special DJ mixes on my “week off,” but I just can’t help it! As you probably heard, I did a DJ set last weekend for my friend’s new monthly event, Savasana. It was my first time using an iPad to DJ, which was a trip. I loved the set I put together so I just had to share it with you. Its a blend of brand new and recent tracks, plus a few oldies, with a nice variety of genres. This set is designed for chillin’ and head bobbing, more than sweaty dance floors. This week my musical guest is the poetess and hip hop artist, Katalyst 5, of Montreal, Canada. I just discovered Lady Katalyst via the new Northern Faction 5 various artist compilation out now on Balanced Records. Today we are checking out the video for the sultry 4:20 RMX of 2 Luvrs by recent Juno Award nominees, Rise Ashen. This video was produced and directed by Labnoise with artistic direction by Lady Katalyst and Ugo Gitau, and choreograhy by Samantha Hinds.

Chandeen feat. Anji Bee “Tomorrow” (2008)

“Tomorrow” is a hidden track at the end of the song titled “Dreaming A Thousand Dreams” from the 2008 album, ‘Teenage Poetry,’ by German band, Chandeen. It features Lovespirals vocalist, Anji Bee. Anji was brought into the recording session at the last moment by the suggestion of fellow Long Beach musician/producer, Mike Brown, who worked with band founder, Harald Löwy, and vocalist, Julia Beyer, on this album. This is a simple photo slide video for the song on YouTube, uploaded in honor of Mike’s recent passing. RIP.

Chillcast #307: 90 Min DJ Mix

I was jonesin’ to do a show this week, and after mentioning that fact on Facebook Friday, folks started encouraging me to give in and just do it. A few people have asked me recently to do another 90 minute mix, so this seemed like a great time to jump in with both feet and explore some of the funkier, sexier, and more upbeat numbers that have been coming in. This extended 90 minute set goes from mid-tempo electrofunk, to slinky downtempo, and then deep house – ending on a super high note of vocal pop house. There’s a mix of vocal and instrumental pieces here, and a number of really great free legal downloads. Enjoy!

For the second time this month, my musical guest is British singer/songwriter, Jamie Woon. I am so addicted to his debut album, Mirrorwriting, that I just can’t get enough! Today I present the mysterious and dreamy video for his original, Burial-produced, mix of “Night Air,” directed by Lorenzo Fonda. The Night Air EP, released in late 2010, also contains 3 other mixes of this lovely tune. The original mix was also featured on my recent Chillcast #306: Sides of Soul.

So did you miss me last week? I have to admit, I missed doing the show. This twice a month thing is going to be hard. Especially when so much good music is coming in.
