I’ve been told several times this week that I’m “passionate” and while that word might hold different connotations for different people, I would have to say that it could well be the one word that sums me up best. This show is one of my passions as I am very passionate about music and passionate about sharing new music that I feel will inspire passion in your lives. I don’t know about you, but when I hear a really good song, a particularly poignant lyric, a soulfully melodic riff, well, it’s a whole lot like falling in love. I was torn between titling this one “Classic Chillout,” “Classic Chillcast,” or “Lovely Ladies.” Today’s show is exactly that, a classic Chillcast mix of lovely chillout tunes with Internationally diverse female vocals. My favorite! I’ve had quite a few high quality trance tracks sent in recently, but this week I was really in more of a mellow mood so what we’ve got here is a nice collection of downtempo, lounge, worldbeat, r&b, and one little drum & bass tune for good measure. I finally got word back from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center that my “Meals For Seals” sponsored pinniped is Cyntia, a California Sea Lion pup. Apparently she is a special case, as she came in not only malnourished and dehydrated, but with an eye injury, as well. Poor thing! Cyntia has been at the center for about 3 months now, and after medical care, vitamins, and food, she is finally able to join the other pinipeds in the swim tanks and eat whole fishes. Apparently she is eating 5 and a half pounds of fish per day! We think Cyntia might have been one of the 3 pups that Ryan and I saw in the nursery the day of our visit. Check out this short video I took of them, they are absolutely adorable!

This week’s one hour episode is a bit more moody than usual with a lot of dream pop and world beat music thrown into the mix. Ambient and ethereal are the order of the day, with plenty of gorgeous female vocals – and some male vocals, as well. I present some great new special permissions music as well as some solid new Podsafe tracks, including several nice free downloads. For those of you in the wintry part of the world, this mix should suit your long dark nights quite nicely… As for the rest of us, it serves as a reminder that cold days are just around the corner.

Help the La Jolla Seals Remain

Can you believe that Attorney Paul Kennerson has been working hard for years to remove the beloved La Jolla seals from “Children’s Pool” at Casa Beach? Everybody else seems to loves them as they are a huge draw for tourists and locals alike. Now that seals are in trouble all up and down the coast, it seems a particularly poor idea to kick them out of this little cove. On top of that, the plan for removal of the seals is to play a recording of dogs barking 24/7, to the tune of $700,000 a year. What???

Artist of the Week: Merge of Equals

Germany’s Sine Music has become a staple of The Chillcast with their steady flow of laid back compilations such as Chillbar, Cosmic Chill Lounge, and Cool Off Chillout. One of the acts that consistently stands out from these collections is, without a doubt, Merge of Equals. Zurich producer, Flavio Maspoli, has collected 18 of his moody chillout singles to create the first-ever artist album for this comp-centric label. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect! With summer in full swing, this hour and a half long mix of lush instrumentals and exotic vocal tracks is sure to set the mood for drinks with friends out under the stars on those long, warm nights. Now you know I love female vocals so I’m pleased to note that this album features an International mix of lovely singers including Gina Estrada, Shunnae Love, Megumi, Sitta, Kotomi, and Fiona Daniel. All in all, Merge of Equals’ Intoxicating certainly lives up to it’s title with dreamy soundscapes and a loungey Ibiza mood.
